Some tips on how to care for an acoustic guitar

Acoustic guitars vary in the quality of the materials that are used to make them but if you follow this general advice you should keep your guitar in good working order.
Keep your guitar away from damp and humid conditions and avoid keeping it in extremes of temperatures. Don’t leave your guitar in a cold car boot overnight or in the car when it’s hot and sunny. If you’re going to leave your guitar for a long period of time, slacken the strings slightly to avoid unnecessary tension on the bridge. When you change the strings, remove and replace them one at a time.
Don’t leave your guitar in direct sunlight. Invisible light rays can damage the glues that hold it together Keep the fingerboard clean behind frets. Perspiration and grime can build up and affect the sound you are able to make.
Add a drop of oil to your machine heads every few months (unless they’re of the closed type) Try and keep your hands as dry as possible when you are playing and wipe a cloth over the strings when you’ve finished
If you buy a guitar stand you will be able to put your guitar securely beside you and not have it propped up against a wall or chair. (Guitars don’t need any excuses to fall over and damage themselves!) If the bottom three guitar strings are sounding dull and you can’t afford a new set, take each one off in turn and give it a good wash and scrub. This will remove debris from between the windings and it may sound better.
